Finding Light in the Darkness: Awakening a Special Kind of Courage
Inspired by Meditation, Nature, & Community
“Sometimes I go about with pity for myself
and all the while Great Winds
are carrying me across the sky.”
~Ojibwe wisdom
In troubling times, it takes courage to stay present and awake to our lives and to respond wisely and compassionately to ourselves, each other, and our world. Learning to find the light in darkness, the peace in turbulence, the clarity in confusion, the strength in vulnerability are profound paths to finding this special kind of courageous presence and compassion.
This awakening is uplifted by supportive community, coherent wisdom-based teachings, and inspiring teachers such as this summer program provides. You’ll find guidance, inspiration, and support for discovering and developing these rare and precious human resources within you that nurture strength, confidence, peace of mind, well-being, and a more sacred view of ourselves and our world.
In these times of uncertainty and complexity, danger, and opportunity, it is more important than ever that we learn to clear and open our minds and hearts, polish the mirror of our awareness, and practice the inner arts and sciences necessary for cultivating peace, clear presence, deep resilience, empathic attunement, insight, and compassionate responsiveness within ourselves and for our world.
In recognition of these needs and potentials, Joel & Michelle Levey return to Indralaya to guide this contemplative program for awakening the power of loving, courageous presence and peace, to increase our capacity to truly be the change we wish to see in our world.
In a supportive environment guided by experienced teachers, along with a community of kindred spirits and the inspiring forces of Nature, amid the exquisite natural beauty of Indralaya, this special program of meditation, inspiration, and celebration offers a rare opportunity to delve into timeless wisdom teachings and engage in profound practices for realizing natural awareness, embodying peaceful presence, and deepening in wisdom and wholehearted compassion. We will share a rich blend of reflection and deep connection with our multidimensional selves and the natural world in an exploration that is so relevant for enhancing our capacity to resiliently thrive and continually rebalance and renew ourselves in these profound times.
Our days together will weave a balance of inspiring wisdom teachings, mindful dialogue and reflection, contemplative silence, and a variety of meditations for cultivating inner peace, insight, resourcefulness, and well-being (including mindfulness, tonglen, gratitude, embodied awareness and movement, lovingkindness, and compassion), together with ample free time opportunities for heartfelt community sharing and mindful adventures exploring the “holy book of nature.” Both experienced and novice meditators are warmly welcome and will find value and inspiration in this unique program.
Indralaya was founded upon the principles of “… promoting harmony among all peoples, and the comparative study of religion, philosophy, and science, so that we may better understand ourselves and our place in the universe.” In this spirit of honoring life and integrating the inner and the outer, this program will bring together wisdom teachings from many traditions along with insights from contemporary brain science research, and timeless themes of practicing presence and non-harming. Come join us and be prepared to joyfully discover new insights, inspirations, and practices for cultivating deeper awareness, honoring your highest potential, and the profound interconnectedness of all that lives.

Presenters/Leaders
Dr. Joel and Michelle Levey have been guiding summer retreats at Indralaya over the past 27 years. As early pioneers opening new frontiers of contemplative science, deep resilience, optimal performance, and collective wisdom they have touched hearts and opened minds of people in hundreds of leading organizations and communities around the globe for over five decades. Founders of Wisdom at Work and Bodhi Tree EcoDharma Sanctuary, they have dedicated their lives to personal transformation as a catalyst for profound social change. The Leveys have been fortunate to study deeply with many of the most respected researchers of extra-ordinary human potential and contemplative science teachers of our times, including: J. Krishnamurti, Thich Nhat Hahn, Kalu Rinpoche, Lama Tharchin, Brother David Steindl-Rast, Angeles Arrien, Joanna Macy, and many others. The Dalai Lama, an advisor on several of their projects, encouraged the Leveys in their work, saying: “You are presently engaged in work that has great prospects for bringing the inner sciences of transformation to a very wide section of people who may not under ordinary circumstances come into contact with these teachings.” IONS, the Institute of Noetic Sciences, has honored Michelle and Joel as “leading teachers of transformation.” Through their work in the…
